Hermanubis was a syncretic Graeco-Egyptian deity that combined the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Anubis, who were both psychopomps (soul guides) for the departed. He was popular in Roman Egypt, depicted with a human body and jackal head, holding the caduceus (Hermes’ staff), and represented the revelation of mysteries of the lower world.
This brass pendant is just over an inch and a half long, and is based upon an ancient carved gemstone with this image. It is quenched in mercurial herbs…
