Hand Forged Blackthorn Spines

Blackthorn quenched hexing thorns, Hand forged by blacksmith Marcus McCoy. Made from horseshoe nails.

Blackthorns were gathered by us in the Pyrenees mountains at the ruins of the castle where Europe’s first witch laws were written. I’ve made a quench of these blackthorns and have hand forged horseshoe nails into the likeness of blackthorns with decorative twists.

The first witch legally killed in Spain and the last was killed at this location and the harvesting and using of blackthorns from this location that is now in ruins is a testament to the transgressive power of witchcraft.
We work with the philosophy of folk magic and alchemy in our blacksmithing of iron talismans, by in the quench lends its virtues to the iron when hot and fixes them within the iron philosophically as the quench crystalizes and takes the hot iron from being mutable to fixed. These are practices being revived by Troll Cunning Forge. After the quench is completed the infused oils or quench is cleansed from the iron and there is no longer any toxic plant material or in this case, blackthorn, left upon the iron. It is non toxic and safe to handle. However the virtues of the plant or various materials used in the quench are philosophically fixed within the Iron from this point forward, according to traditional alchemical philosophy. The nails can be used to curse in a myriad of different ways, or as an apotropaic charm, and as always these are mere examples and the only limit to their utility is your skill and occult creativity.
