How to care for my TCF Artifact

In order to keep your new artifact clean and ensure its longevity there are a few guidelines one must follow.

High carbon steel, patinated steels, even mild steel requires care and for many this is a lost knowledge. Oiling and waxing your steel monthly, or after use is essential to maintaining it. Axe wax, renaissance wax, or mineral oil can be applied. TCF offers a mineral based athame oil with black frankincense E.O added to it, for the purpose of oiling tools after each use. In humid areas this is a must to prevent corrosion.

Add a small amount of the wax or oil and lightly rub it onto the surface. Be sure to apply it evenly over the entire area of exposed meta and buff off excessive amounts. A light coating is all that is needed, and will look nearly unnoticeable if done correctly.

Do not reheat athames, or any heat-treated steels or anything at all that has been made by Troll Cunning Forge. The alchemical methods we use are philosophically intended to lock the virtues of different quenchants within the metals. By reheating it, you ruin the metal as well as the item and there is no good reason to do this. Do not listen to authors that tell you to heat an athame and quench it, they are not blacksmiths and do not understand the art and methodologies behind it.

Heat treated patinas on steels require the same treatment of wax and or oil. Acids, including that in wine can remove heat treatment color patterns. If you plan on using acidic materials or any liquids with these metal items you may risk removing the color. Most steel bowls will be coated with a mineral oil, or clear coat, or protection, and will require the same treatment of waxing or oil if used, and not for ornamental purposes. Linseed oil blackened items and brass brushed items also benefit from mineral oil occasionally but are more corrosion resistant. All scrying bowls are coated hot with mineral oil for water resistance.

How to Care for Copper and non-ferrous items

Copper, brass, and bronze items are non-ferrous, or not iron based alloys, they require similar care but different than steel. Rust is not an issue but corrosion can occur when exposed to acidic environments, In Fact patinas are often a controlled corrosion of the surface of the metal. Handling will tarnish a well-polished non-ferrous item, metal polishes for brass or copper are advised. In the case of an item is chemically patinated or heat treat patina is done a protective coating is used to prevent oxidation and further chemical changes to the surface of the metal which give it its beauty. Using items such as these in improper ways run the risk of ruining the patina and is not advised. These items are more for decoration and not to hold anything but dry materials if anything at all unless you wish to run the risk of scratching, or ruining the surface chemically. With patinated items there is no care needed an doing so may ruin the patinated art.

Is it legal to ship knives to my state or country?

It is up to the buyer to research, study and confirm before purchasing. TCF does not offer refunds on returned or confiscated items.
